Profiteering Fuel Stations - Boycott them!
June 17, 2008
So, because of situations outside of our control, namely greedy tanker delivery drivers who already are on an average salary of £33k, we are now hearing reports of petrol stations trying to take advantage of the situation and bump their prices up to make more money out of an already crap situation for us motorists.
Can I put it to all our readers of Fuel Fool that you remember who these fuel stations are and when the fuel strikes are over boycott them completely. Why should we give them our money when they see us as a quick way of making money.
You may or may not be aware of the garage in Exeter charging £1.99 per litre which was on the news yesterday. A spokesman says it was to stop panic buying….question is do you believe them or do you see them as trying to make a fast buck from us…again…after this, do you want to give them your business after this?
let us all know your thoughts and comments on this.
Shell Tanker Drivers Planning Strike
June 11, 2008
So were in for a weekend of more protests from the workers who are a key part of ensuring delivery of fuel to petrol stations.
OK, so they think they need a pay rise (dont we all in the current climate were in??).
The Government have admitted that this strike can actually cause fuel stations to run dry and once again this hits us the motorist hard again. How are we going to get to work? How are goods going to be delivered to Food Stores? it affects us in all areas of life.
Do you simpathise with these drivers? Is it the right thing to do , and do you think they will get what they want?
Also, why hasnt the country done a major blockade so far to protest against the government?? So far, the price of fuel has gone up and up and up without any regulation whatsoever. The Government have allowed Fuel Companies to do what they want. The price of oil fluctuates up and down but we dont see our fuel prices on the forecourt going down when the price of a barrel of oil goes down.
Is the country on its knees?? is labour going to get back in….I could ask these questions all day long here.. Its the common motorist like us who need to make a stand and tell the Government enough is enough.. but so far all the UK motorist has done is moaned a bit and sat back and allowed themselves to be continually shafted by the Government and the Fat Cat oil Companies.
Whats your thoughts on this??
Are refinery workers fair to strike?
April 28, 2008
As we all know, today is day 2 of the Grangemouth Refinery walkout over pensions and already we have seen disruption throughout the country with people panic buying, limits imposed on the amount of fuel you can buy, some profiteering going on with Petrol Stations putting up their prices and cashing in on the crisis.
Our question is, do you think the refinery workers have thought about the consequences of strike action on the motorist who hasnt got anything to do with their argument?
Do you think they should have gone on strike?
Do you think the government should have intervened?
Grangemout Refinery Walkout
April 27, 2008
Grangemouth Refinery has officially started its 48 hour walkout this morning with 1200 workers now officially on strike over final pension pay issues. The strike is set to cost £50 million a DAY, which is considerably more than it would cost to settle the whole dispute.
Whilst we agree in principle for the Unions to fight for the rights of the workers, we are asking how, if talks and consultation began last September, sucha strategic and important lifeline to the country has been allowed to shut down?
More so we are interested on how this can further impact on the out of control pricing we are seeing at the petrol pumps each day.
Give us your views on this issue and how a potential fuel strike can affect your daily life.
We all need fuel
April 24, 2008
We all need fuel for our vehicles to go about our daily life and filling up in petrol stations is one of those evils we have to put up with. Tonight after a conversation with a friend I thought id put this suggestion out to all of Fuel Fools visitors and bloggers and get your thoughts on it.
We are all aware that petrol stations are putting up their prices to suit themselves at the moment as they know we have to have fuel…..so heres the suggestion.. Petrol stations also need to make money on the products they sell in the shops (drinks, crisps, sweets etc). .Simply use the petrol station for fuel as you need it, but dont buy anything else off them…hit them back in the pocket. They need this extra income…. Yes its nice to drive along munching on some sweets but just once, resisit it, dont buy anything else off them… if everyone did it they would soon feel it..

Fuel Strike Profiteering
April 24, 2008
The planned Fuel Strike has brought out the shameless petrol stations who have decided to charge people what they want. One Petrol Station in Kirkaldy has been charging £1.30 a litre for fuel another was limiting fuel supplies and due to a “computer error” began charging customers £1.45 a litre.
Rix Garage was limiting customers to £10 worth of fuel each.
It had briefly charged £1.45 a litre for diesel on Monday while unleaded petrol was at £1.25.
A garage spokesman said it was because of a “misunderstanding with the computer”.
He said: “It was only for 20 minutes until the computer was reset.”
There have been long queues at many petrol stations, with some running out of fuel.
A spokesman says Grangemouth had plentiful fuel stocks to cater for consumers should the industrial action go ahead.
W will advise you of the following: If you are ripped off throughout this period of time when Grangemouth does go on strike, remember it and never use the petrol stations who ripped you off again!!!! It’s as simple as that. It happened in the 2000 petrol strike and you remembered those who profited from your hardship of not being able to get much fuel. Some went out of business…..their own fault really.
Give us your comments on this.
Fuel Soars as refinery shuts for strike
April 22, 2008
Unions at a major oil refinery were due to meet with management for talks on a planned strike that drove oil prices to a new record on Monday as a farmers’ union said fuel suppliers had imposed rationing. The 200,000 barrels per day Grangemouth refinery in Scotland was cutting production on Monday ahead of a two-day strike due to start on Sunday over pensions cuts.
A shutdown at Grangemouth could cut flows of North Sea crude into Britain and hit British gas supplies if the Forties pipeline, which feeds the refinery, is forced to close.
“The union is meeting the company later this evening,” a source with the refinery’s union said.
“The plant is in the process of beginning to shut down.”
Ineos was not immediately available for comment on talks. Earlier, refinery owner Ineos’ Communications Manager Richard Longden said it would take a week to fully shut the plant.
Worries about a supply disruption at Grangemouth was one of the factors helping push U.S. oil prices to a new record high of $117.76 a barrel on Monday.
Oil traders said the effects could be felt first on the diesel market.
“It’s more a diesel problem than anything else,” said one London based oil trader.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the dispute was a matter for the company and unions to resolve. “There is contingency planning under way,” he said, without giving details.
In New York, gasoline prices surged to their record high of $3.00 a gallon and heating oil, the basis for U.S. diesel and heating oil prices, hit its all time peak at $3.33 a gallon.
Come on guys…help us out here.
April 18, 2008
When I first started this blog in february I anticipated that a fairly good portion of the UK motorists would back it and leave their comments on the rising fuel costs so the Government can read them (The Governement are aware of this blog).
Unfortunately this isnt so, The site is getting thousands of hit and people are reading the blog posts…but thats about it. Hardly anyone is signing a petition against the rising tax on fuel which we are going to present to the government and it seems that people want to beef off about the rising cost of fuel but do little else about it. (I appreciate the effort of the guys who have taken time to comment and leave their signature on the e-petition).
Come on guys…. we all have a rant and rave about the escalating fuel costs…. this blog is known by Gord and his merry men and is a platform for you to tell them exactly what you think of the the fuel situation in the UK and how its affecting you.
Most of all, you can help spread the word and pass it on to your friends, relatives and colleagues at work.
Your voice is important if you want to help do something about this!!!!!! Come on, have your say!
Pass this on by clicking the image on the right hand side… We dont collect any information from you. Sign the e-petition before you leave. You are asked for your e-mail address solely for the purposes of the petition and will not receive any unsolicited mail from us.
Thanks.
Running a car is the second biggest cost in the household
April 18, 2008
Today its been revealed that the new second most expensive thing you have to pay for apart from your mortgage is your car, escalating fuel and running costs being one of the major factors influencing this.
The Prime Minister says he is aware of the escalating fule costs and is working to help lower the cost of a barrel of oil?
OK Gord, what exactly are you doing about it?? Your voters are keen to hear from you about this?
What do you think….tell us your thoughts and as always, pass this site onto your friends, relatives and colleagues to spread the word.
Bus Company latest fuel price victims
April 3, 2008
Bus company Go North East are putting up their fares by at least 10p due to the rising cost of fuel. They have held off putting them up for some time however are in a position where they now have to as its costing the company an extra £10,000 a DAY in fuel costs.
Commercial director Martin Harris said: “Over the last year, the price of fuel has shot up and our fuel bill is now 56 per cent higher than it was 12 months ago.
“We need to find an extra £10,500 for every day of travel just to cover those costs - that’s nearly £4m a year.
“We have held off putting up fares for as long as we can, but we cannot absorb the cost of these significant fuel rises any longer without it beginning to affect our services and restricting the amount of investment we can make in our fleet.
Fuel Fool asks when is there going to be any regulation by the governement on these fuel increases? They just seem to continue rising DESPITE the government saying they arent levying the 2p increase till October. Companies like this bus company are only trying to provide a service to the community around them and they are finding the fuel costs an impact to them. Whats your thoughts on this?
