Why is Gordon Brown still in power, Did the british people vote him in. The answer is NO, why do we let him tax our fuel, putting small haulage firm out of business. Do as the French do, bloke the ports the roads, make the goverment listern.

Why do we have to pay tax on the fuel, and then pay VAT on top of that, and pay road tax, all on something that most people need to carry out there normal lives?

Why not cut the fuel tax and increase tax on luxury goods like alcohol and cigarettes?? The Government complains about Britains "Binge drinking culture" so increasing tax on alcohol would help bring this down, along with drink driving issues... Higher tax on tobbaco would encourage people to stop smoking too (yes I am a smoker before you ask). But these are luxuries.

Cars are necessities, public transport is not available to rural Britain or to shift workers like myself that need to be in work for 6am.

Tax the rich that want to continue enjoying luxuries and give the working class that doesnt have a choice a break!!

The cost of fuel is pushing all things up except my salary. I have two jobs but my salary no longer pays my living expenses and my credit card bill is nearly at its limit - used not for luxuries but basics like food and fuel. There'll be no holiday this year and even the odd day out has had to go as we simply can't afford the petrol for our ancient Renault. My husband is severely disabled, cannot use public transport and is therefore dependent upon the car for visits to the hospital or simply a change of scenery from the four walls of our front room!

It doesn't surprise me that our politicians have no concept of what ordinary folk are going through. It made my blood boil to read that they have two or more houses paid for, even their food and satillite tv bills! It should be compulsory for all politicians to feed their family on the minimum wage.

I read with interest that petrol in January 2008 was 101.9 p/l and diesel 106.9p/l. In my area petrol now 118.9p/l diesel 130.9 p/l I have diesel car and have used £90 in the last 670kms. My business petrol expenditure has trebled per month from the same period last year. Gordon is swanning off to Saudi (on our money) to beg for production to be increased. BRING DOWN THE DUTY GORDON!! Why should we be absolutley crippled with 77.5p per 100p to the government when they swan around with three houses, paying their families to do nothing, while the ordinary hard working british family has compromise on the quality of life. BRING BACK THE BLOCKADES. BRING THE COUNTRY TO A STANDSTILL UNTIL THE DUTY IS BROUGHT DOWN.

Why not boycott ALL the petrol stations? Then I could use my bike without nearly being run over all the damn time.

British people are such hypocrites. When someone else is in trouble, we're all, like, "Get a job" and "get on your bike" but when the price of petrol goes up because the stuff's running out, it's all special pleading for tax cuts and giveaways. So why don't you fat sods get on YOUR bikes, you could stand to lose some weight. Also I wouldn't have to breathe your fumes the whole time. My nephew has asthma because of people like you. Hope you get the message soon.

You're so right - petrol tax is not enough. It should be double!

How about you lot stop moaning and find an alternative way of getting around that doesn't involve wrecking the environment and inconveniencing everyone who doesn't drive a car?
