How are the fuel price increases affecting you?

January 12, 2008

How are you affected?
Let everyone know how you are being affected by the fuel price increases. Fuel Fool were talking to a motorist who is finding it hard to afford the fuel for her car to go to work. Whilst fuel prices have escalated (along with energy and a host of other things) her wages sadly havnt and she is finding things very difficult now.

Are you in a similar situation? Let us know.

You may have found a way to alleviate the burdons on you..if you have, let us all know.

The rise in petrol prices are having a massive impact on our family. I am a hard working person who is trying to meet all committments and keep my families head above water and all im doing is travelling around 30 miles a day for work and the fuel increases mean that its added around £20 a week onto my petrol spend.
As a result we can no longer just nip through to the local retail park and we are now tightening our belts.. For us its a case of putting petrol in the car to go to the retail park or spend the money on food.
Costs are going up all around us and I share the same opinion as other people on here that its becoming too expensive to live in our own country…
I support this campaign 100% because if it gives the motorist a voice then that can only be a good thing.
    Good luck with the campaign

Where is the quality of life when travelling is far to expensive?

Why aren’t our wages matched to keep us going by?

Why is the govenrment making life hell for everyone?

Why are we being dicatated to by such a moron called Gordon Brown?

Bring back Winston Churchill, at least he had backbone !!!

I’M SICK TO THE BACK TEETH OF THIS LYING THIEVING PARASITE GOVERNMENT WHO ARE STEALING SO MUCH FROM US AND SAYING IT’S FOR OUR OWN GOOD. £1.13 FOR 1 LITRE OF DIESEL!!? SOON THEY’D BE AS WELL HOLDING OUR ARMS OVER A BUCKET AND SLASHING THEM BECAUSE THEY’D BE AS WELL SUCKING OUT ALL OF OUR BLOOD.

everything has moved. the local shops are closing around us, so this means we have to travel further afield to purchase the things we want. this is because the government wants everything in one place and in one shop stores that continually kill community shopping, this makes it cheaper for the heads that be to keep an eye on us, this in effect costs more to go to because of the price increases, no ime not just rambling on and i know this is a site fore info about fuel and protesting it but this is about the fuel.

Think about the real costs it involves and what it is actually going to cost in the end.

    Industry
    Health
    Life

every aspect of our lifes is affected by any increase in pricing, it just takes longer for us to realise.

say fuel does reach £1.50 a litre what are you going to do. simple pay for it because you have to.

and £2.00 again pay for it.

but when does it realy affect you

when you cant afford to go to work.

i am a disabled driver and cannot use public transport and taxis are out of my budget for the amount of trips i make daily, my four year old has JRA and she has to be backwards and forwards. the prices are killing me and mine, and if this is me, know that there are far more people out there worse off

but we will still pay it because if we dont then we get to where were going in the hours of need.

  7. mike on April 4th, 2008 7:34 am

you know Brown states that this falls into line with europe, does anyone know what happens when the french are not happy with something!!!!

they strike and blockade and then there government listens and does something.

we blockaded where did it get us.

the browns of this world put on the stiff upper lip and rode it out and then the cheeky B******* gave us another price increase. but you know when the price came down per barrel the cost at the pumps whent up again, whats that all about.

  8. Tim on April 5th, 2008 1:34 pm

The only way to deal with G.Brown and the tax and spend Labour GoV is to not vote for them in the coming council elections. Its a shame there is no general election but he has already rumbled that he would loose that big time. What needs to be done is to sent the westminster club a clear message that the public has had enough. 3 partys and all as bad as each other. All members of the same silly public schoolboy upper class twit club. I suggest not voting at all or vote for an independant or minor party. That would scare the pants off them. To coin a phrase Enough is Enough.

From 1983 until 2003 I worked for the same company, that company was based 5 miles from my house, so I used to cycle every day. But in 2003 the company closed and I was made redundent, because there is not much indusrty where I live I had to get a job 20 miles away, there is no public transport when I require it so I have to drive, my wife still works localy but too far to cycle, so she needs a car. Back in 2003 when we only had 1 car our monthly fuel costs were £30/40 (work and social driving). But now our average fuel costs are £150/160 per month, add onto that tax and insurance. I have tried those car share web sites, but nobody is going the same way as me at the same time. If the fuel prices continue to rise my family will really start to struggle.

As this country has alot of issues, I think its time to stand up to these people with a protest march. One person will not make an ounce of difference, but if all the people stood up to this country & what they believe in, then what would the government do against all the people. Surely they would have to listen to us then.

All MPs are Rob Dogs. Is there one MP out there than can be like Robin Hood. Take Off The Rich & Give to The Poor.

  13. Leeane on April 9th, 2008 11:04 am

I am a single parent and have to work full time to make ends meet, my car is essential for getting to and from work, but the cost of fuel now is ridicolous and is having a serious affect on my income. They are all for getting single parents back to work and providing additional help and try explaining to them that should fuel prices and road tax keep increasing then i would probably be better off not working as it would cost to much to keep a car on the road. the government is a joke, they can charge whatever they like to subsidise their fancy lifestyles and latest models of cars whilst we have to drive around avoiding pot holes every 500 yards. It’s ridicolous, country is a mess.

  14. mike on April 25th, 2008 7:33 am

it doesnt matter if you vote them in or out there all the bloody same and the price will keep going up, you can put veggie oil in your diesel and gradualy build up the levels untill your basically running the car on it, however if you get caught your done for tax evasion, so you have to inform them that you are doing it and they keep a tab on the amount your using and charge you accordinally.

we need cars that run on water.

    mmmmmm
that would be nice hose pipe on the car straight from the tap

  15. mike on April 25th, 2008 7:40 am

how much was gords last banquet at which they discussed the latest price rise on fuel while they were sipping brandy and laughing at us all.

come on they have to eat and we have to pay for the lobster they work for us, they help us, they run the country, they have 2 cars and they have 2 houses and a decor budget dont get onto them to much its not there fault,

THE THIEVING DIRTY ROTTEN LYING SCOUNDRELS THAT SUCK THIS COUNTRY DRY THEN HAND THE BLOODY POWER OVER TO EUROCRATS AND THE LIKE AND GET THERE ARSES KICKED BECAUSE OUR F*****ING BANANAS ARENT STRAIGHT ENOUGH

NOW IME PISSED AND THAT MADE ME FEEL A LITTLE BETTER AFTER SPENDING £90.00 ON FUEL THIS MORNING

  16. Karsten wille on April 25th, 2008 12:12 pm

As a father of two and a very hard working man - spending £1.20 a litre 25 April 2008 on diesel is daylight robbery! If fuel prices continue to sore what are families going to do, including the increase of vehicle tax.

The problem with the increase of fuel is that it has an impact on anything and everything else you buy including food, because good needs to be transported. Owning a car automatically puts you into a sin bin and this knock on effect doesn’t seem to stop!

Some very serious questions need to be asked to fuel companies and the tax which is put on fuel by the government. Why is diesel more expensive than petrol? There used to be a time when Diesel was considerably less expensive to buy that petrol - so what has changed. Diesel is less expensive to produce in the refining process.

Great site and I hope it makes a difference!

HERE IT COMES, NO ELEVENTH HOUR, LETS SEE IF THE PRICES COME DOWN AFTER THE STRIKES.

THE GOVERNMENT STAND TO LOOSE MILLIONS IN REVENUE FROM THIS WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GET IT BACK, MMMM I WONDER

I PREDICT THE PRICES WILL STAY THE SAME AFTER NEXT WEEK AND THE NEXT HIKE DUE IN OCTOBER WILL COME IN JUNE JULY

  18. becky on April 26th, 2008 7:01 pm

Work in Cambridge but live in Norfolk as I can’t afford to buy a house there. 30,000 miles a year commute for a PhD Dr on less than a graduate salary with a two year old and child care bills too. According to FOE and others I should take public transport but this would cost £30 a day fot train and bus. No point working in that case. Whats a person supposed to do?

  19. mike on April 29th, 2008 6:47 am

Are the workers right to strike, yes i think they are, why shouldnt they, there point is well made for why there doing it.

    should the government step in.

    yes, no, yes, no

they should NOT interfere with the companies nor the workers

yes they should step in and pass law that stops companies profitering from strikes and the such and any such company doing this should be hevily fined for illegal activity and if caught doing it again should not get a fine but should be made to work for the community and sell whatever is left in there tanks at cost price so they make no profit then the local consumer can see the fine too.

to many companies recieve fines by various agencies but where does that money go.

  20. Paul on May 2nd, 2008 10:44 am

What amazes me is that we all sit about complaining about fuel prices.

When will enough be enough…….how long can we just sit and complain?

Surely its time to say ‘no’………….to take action………….??

But you know why we dont do anything but whine……………………its must be because we can afford it afterall.

If it meant we were pushed over the poverty line im sure their would be a backlash.

  21. Tom on May 21st, 2008 11:43 am

Does the government intend to increase its mileage allowance rate for owner/drivers who use their own car for business use? The current rate is 40p (for the first 10,000 miles pa) then 25p per mile thereafter.
This same rate has been in force since 2002, when unleaded fuel was around 75p per litre. At 113p now, this is almost a 50% increase in fuel costs alone, without the increase in road tax, insurance, servicing costs etc. over the last 6 years.
As the owner of a one-man small business, my travelling costs have rocketed, yet I can still only offset a maximum of 40p per mile for tax purposes. Most of my business is off convenient public transport routes, and I need to carry equipment, so my only option is to drive.
It seems to me that the government is having it both ways - enjoying the increased fuel duty and sticking to out-of-date 2002 allowance rates for essential business drivers.

So i popped into our local service station and was stopped by the attendant who said the pumps were of for a couple of minutes as they were putting the price up on the diesel, by how much i asked 2p he calmly replied to which i said you ROBBING BAST***S ITS THE LAST TIME I BY ANYTHING FROM YOU

SINCE BEFORE THE STRIKE THE FUEL HAS GONE UP IN SHELL BYKER NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE 12P AND ITS STILL RISING

GORDO SAID THAT HE WAS FREEZING THE TAX INCREASE BUT THE GARAGES ARE JUST PUTTING IT ON.

Getting way out of hand , as being self empolyed and paying 1.30 a litre of diesel , iv had to put up what i charge customers for the work i do , iv also lost a few customers as there total income is at breaking point , like a lot of people …
. Theres even been thefts of fuel by the scumbags that drill a hole in your tank so they dont have to pay !!!

Bloody Goverment reduce the tax and let us all get back on track..

  24. ray on May 28th, 2008 9:18 am

i got to say this goverment are a bunch of lying thieving jokers my story i was unemployed for several yours when along came a chance for me to make something in my life byt he way of a program called working links
this program helped me back to work i became a self employed worker with the help of working links also the scootish enterprize and horizon which all help get me a grant all was well got started things doing great untill this great rise in fuel due to this there is a good chance that i will be forced back to unemployment as i am now finding it very difficult to run the van and my tolls which all need fuel my running costs have went up by about 40quid aweek not only that but my familys food bill has gone up as well as the shops are now upping there prices to make ends meet due to this fuel also why has it taking such a hike in the last 4weeks is this all because grangemouth had a wee strike its utterly terrible the way the brittish ppl are treated i and my fammily are having talks now about moving out of scotland and heading abroad if this continues

    ps
i went in to my local petral station in glasgow southside a shell garage which is a franchise i complained to the owner asking why has the fuel gone up almost 8p in the last 7day the reply i got was one of shock horror she told me well i need to make some money for xmas is that not just aload of bull???? so shes loving it and to hell with her customers

this counrty needs to take a standstill now or its goodnight for us

  25. ray on May 28th, 2008 9:43 am

i think its about time that the brittish public should take a stance on this out and out fuel rip off

i live in glasgow we called for blockades when the fuel reached 83p so why are we not doing this again

i think from monday 2 june every were in glasgowand all over the uk we should blockade our petrol stations hit back at these rip of garage owners as i was told by one lady in a garage in speirsbridge thornliebank when asked why the fuel is going up when theres no need she replied i need to make money for xmas rip of bast????

some come on the scots all the brittish public lets blockade the sevices and hit them back were it hurts see how they feel

  26. mike on May 28th, 2008 9:44 am

so what has the lorry go slow achieved, acording to the latest news Gordo is gona have a word with the oil industry and ask them please will you produce more and bring the price down !!!!!!

    HEY GORDON BROWN

BRING THE DUTY DOWN AND THEN WE WILL FEEL A LITTLE BETTER
KEEP THE VAT THATS NOT THE PROBLEM
ITS THE DUTY THATS KILLING THIS COUNTRY

  27. Aaron Whitehead on June 3rd, 2008 8:36 pm

What Hauliers need to do is convert there fleet of HGV’s to run on LNG or CNG (Naural Gas) they can rcoupe the cost back fairly quickly and the cost of diesel drops dramatically as the vehicles now run mainly on gas.

  28. Claire on June 22nd, 2008 9:14 pm

I read with interest that petrol in January 2008 was 101.9 p/l and diesel 106.9p/l. In my area petrol now 118.9p/l diesel 130.9 p/l I have diesel car and have used £90 in the last 670kms. My business petrol expenditure has trebled per month from the same period last year. Gordon is swanning off to Saudi (on our money) to beg for production to be increased. BRING DOWN THE DUTY GORDON!! Why should we be absolutley crippled with 77.5p per 100p to the government when they swan around with three houses, paying their families to do nothing, while the ordinary hard working british family has compromise on the quality of life. BRING BACK THE BLOCKADES. BRING THE COUNTRY TO A STANDSTILL UNTIL THE DUTY IS BROUGHT DOWN.

  29. Liz on June 23rd, 2008 7:06 pm

The cost of fuel is pushing all things up except my salary. I have two jobs but my salary no longer pays my living expenses and my credit card bill is nearly at its limit - used not for luxuries but basics like food and fuel. There’ll be no holiday this year and even the odd day out has had to go as we simply can’t afford the petrol for our ancient Renault. My husband is severely disabled, cannot use public transport and is therefore dependent upon the car for visits to the hospital or simply a change of scenery from the four walls of our front room!

It doesn’t surprise me that our politicians have no concept of what ordinary folk are going through. It made my blood boil to read that they have two or more houses paid for, even their food and satillite tv bills! It should be compulsory for all politicians to feed their family on the minimum wage.

  30. paul on July 19th, 2008 5:36 pm

im a postman living in a rural village i travel about 50 miles a day, don’t even have a choice to use public transport as there are no services before the time i start work, think i should get a fuel rebate.. What is the goverment trying to do to the country? daily rises in fuel prices, now brown is telling us we waste too much food and need to buy less!! Who the f#@* can afford enough food, as all our money is spent on fuel!!
