I live in Hartlepool, and the cheapest petrol station here is the Shell Garage at the Warren Road Roundabout. The prices have just gone up to 101p per litre for Petrol and 106p a litre for Diesel. They always seem to be the cheapest in Hartlepool and as a consequence there are sometimes queues to get into it. As for the others in the tow, BP etc, I wouldnt bother using them as they take your eyes out and charge the best prices they can get.

  2. William Rafferty on January 30th, 2008 12:30 am

I stay in Broadford Isle of Skye the Esso garage owned by The Scottish co-operative charges 1.11p a ltr for Diesel. they only took it over at the summer time, the first thing they done was a price increase as well as stopping the fuel bunkering service .

I live in north Leeds LS17. We have a local BP station at Mortown on the A61 just before the A6120 Leeds ring road roundabout. Whenever there is a rise in the oil price, this station is always the first to put its prices up. It seems to act immediately. For example, on Wednesday this week, unleaded went up to 103.9, reacting immediately to the rise of oil on the markets. However, when the price went down over the past weeks, there was no reduction. The excuse is that any reduction takes time to come through to the pumps. What a con and rip off. Isn’t it strange that a rise in the price of oil doesn’t take time to be reflected at the pumps? Yet again the public is being cheated by the oil companies

  6. mike on March 19th, 2008 8:07 am

come on whats going on out there. even when the price per barrel drops our prices remain the same, but when it rises it just keeps going up how long before £150 a litre.

  7. Gerry on march 19, 2008 on March 19th, 2008 5:55 pm

it’s quite easy to remedy getting ripped of by the people you voted to put in power to look after your interests, DO NOT vote them back in at the next election after all they have done nothing but screw us since they have been in power & worse still they haven’t even tried to hide the fact that they are screwing us, not only in fuel rises, but what other country could you walk into and be given free healthcare, free housing and free cash without paying bugger all into the country in the first place, after paying into the NHS all my working life my GP has just told me that it will cost me NINTY FOUR POUND & FIFTY PENCE for a medical which i need to keep my psv licence, bet if i had just walked into this country i could have got it for nothing, talk about second class citizens in your own country

  8. Colin on April 16th, 2008 12:01 pm

    Hi,
I’m from Hamilton, near Glasgow and i’m paying 103.9 for petrol at my local JET station, the Shell garage 0.5 mile down the road is 105.9, guess which one is most busy!! The prices are a joke, this goverment are absolutley screwing not only the motorist but every law abiding, tax paying, trying to survive person out there. I agree completly with Gerry, you really feel like you are being shafted from all angles and do feel like a second class citizen. Paying through the nose for fuel, for food, morgages, everything you need to get by!
I dont usually vote, so cant really criticise, but next tiume round I will be and hopefully a more country wellbeing friendly goverment will be in power.
This goverment is too dam soft when it comes to imigration, law breakers and lay-abouts and too harsh on honest Joe public.
There has to be a way of hurting the goverment to bring the fuel duty right down, its an outrage. We need to rack our brains to think of a clever way to do this because just not buying fuel from certail fuel suppliers doesnt really work.
Come on people of Britain, time to fight back.

  9. Mr. P.J.Mills on April 25th, 2008 7:04 am

We can all help to change any given situation as a united people have all the power they need.
The petrol stations can-not function without our custom.
So somone must sset up a web site and give clear instructions to bocotte a petrol out-let company, and we will not use that forcourt to fill up.
That petrol out-let will have to lower prices to 2005 prices or close down.
Thousands of people have the internet ,they don;t have to go out to demorstrate
these days, and they can use it in very good ways, for the majority to change bad things for the better.
The internet can benifit all of us if used in the proper manner.

  10. mike on April 25th, 2008 7:22 am

so yet again the stations are playing the inevitable game by creeping the prices up on fuel and the excuse is the strike.
    i just dont understand.

three weeks ago the price was 1.02ppl on diesel

    now its 1.19ppl

    mmmmm

this week i seen 1p per day going on to the price of diesel leading up to the strike by the major fuel retailers BP SHELL and even Morrisons.

looking to set the price of around 1.35p per litre through the strike possibly higher.

now its the fuel retailers that are ripping us of not that they wernt before but its more obvious now.

it will be interesting to see what they do with the prices once the strike is over.

i agree with the comments from an earlier post.

hit them where it hurts dont buy anything from there shops.

    not in England they don’t

  13. mike on April 29th, 2008 6:54 am

if the government steps in they are only going to make things worse.

i agree with the strike even though it is affecting everyone

dont try and screw your staff especially when they work in such an important industry.

the gov should only step in to fine the greedy B*******ds that are profiting from this strike and should pass law that makes them sell whatever fuel they have left at cost price and this includes the national companies like shell BP and the supermarkets, even if only one of there garages increased the price. all their garages should be made to do so, they would think twice the next time when they try profiteering

  14. Tony Wilts on May 3rd, 2008 1:17 pm

Fuel prices are an emotive & not generally well understood issue. Of course everyone along the supply chain is profitering under the smokescreen of “the difficult economic climate”. What is inescapable is that this government under the pretext of pretending to care about global warming is continuing to hike the tax burden on fuel, UK fuel tax is the highest anywhere.
For every 1 $ a barrel price increase that is sustained over a year Brown rakes in another £250 million in tax. I will take some convincing that the gov REALLY want us to cut back. This country runs on petro tax, if we stop buying the government’s revenue stream would collapse, swiftly followed by the economy.
So I’m afraid Brown will do nothing about the price of fuel in real terms. He commented the other day about getting OPEC to increase production to reduce pressure on the spot market. Any increase will go straight to the Chinese/ India. And as for his comment about “We have frozen the 2p tax increase set for October”, well thanks a bunch Brown!

  15. GERRY on May 16th, 2008 10:18 am

Your high earners doesn’t give a monkeys about the price of fuel, majority of people are working glass and need thier vehicles to make a living, and what do we need our vehicles for.(yes you’ve guessed it) to go out and pay more taxes.

  16. mike on May 22nd, 2008 6:59 am

So i popped into our local service station and was stopped by the attendant who said the pumps were of for a couple of minutes as they were putting the price up on the diesel, by how much i asked 2p he calmly replied to which i said you ROBBING BAST***S ITS THE LAST TIME I BY ANYTHING FROM YOU

SINCE BEFORE THE STRIKE THE FUEL HAS GONE UP IN SHELL BYKER NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE 12P AND ITS STILL RISING

GORDO SAID THAT HE WAS FREEZING THE TAX INCREASE BUT THE GARAGES ARE JUST PUTTING IT ON.

Do you think if I seek asylum into a different country, I would get the same benefits like what they do here, will I f**k. All I want is a reasonable taxation system, not the ones where it burns a hole in your pocket.

i asked why this was up so much the lady replied well i need to get money for xmas some how is that not just in your face cheek robbing as??????

  20. Derek Falkirk on May 28th, 2008 5:47 pm

We need to show downing street we will take this no more. A nationwide strike no one shows up for work for at least 1 day and mabe the larger companies like Tesco and Asda ect will add their voice. This will be hitting the general haulage guys harder.

WE NEED ACTION WHERE ARE THE FARMERS NOW!!!!

  21. Simon Sanderson on June 3rd, 2008 3:18 pm

Dont believe all you see and hear about Supermarket fuel costs.
In the Sunbury/Staines area there are 6 garages on the way to work for me, 3 BP stations all between 129.9 and 133.9 (why do they vary so much in only 4 miles?) one Murco at 129.9 and Tesco at 129.9 - hidden away in Staines is a Shell garage at 126.9 Hurray!
The Tesco tanker had ‘why pay more’ written down the side - exactly i thought - go to Shell!!

  22. steve on June 3rd, 2008 7:21 pm

BP are all ways 5 to 6p more than shell, i paid £1.33.9 at toddington services on friday ……….i will never use BP again and i suggest everyone boycots BP until they stop ripping us off.

  23. Steve -C- on June 10th, 2008 1:06 pm

Liverpool shell petrol 112.9 diesel 126.9 . . . . . . What i’d like to know is why is the price gap between petrol and diesel increasing? Does it have anything to do with the fact that more vehicles use diesel so its a way of lining their pockets? Is it because fuel economy is better? Buying a diesel car today makes no sense, it costs about a 1k extra and the extra fuel costs makes the mpg irrelevant. It used to be about 2 - 5 difference, 14p is taking the p!ss
Also the government just takes because we can’t live without it. What i don’t get is why they keep increasing handouts to lazy bums. They need to regulate handouts and reduce the quality of living to the minimums, in the war they had rations and its didn’t do them harm. (ow wait there, politics is about votes, so giving bums handouts will win more votes) Damn in all pissed off now!

  24. Eric West on June 11th, 2008 6:26 am

  25. Ade on June 11th, 2008 11:22 am

Just been to Sainsbury’s in Magpie Cres, Stevenage - - Diesel £130.9 per litre

  26. Daniel on June 12th, 2008 6:17 pm

Fuel in New Zealand is 78p per litre for 91 and 80p per litre for Diesel this is a country that has little or no natural oil reserves and they get it from the sameplace as us. How does this work ? as a Kiwi expat i have lived here for almost 10 years but iam getting sick of being “Bent Over” by Gordon Brown and his over the top taxes peanalising the motorist. We need to stand and be counted as the car using voters can send this government to where they belong.

  27. Ray on June 13th, 2008 9:53 pm

I’m protesting now by leaving my car in the garage at home, I now cycle 10 miles to work, and 10 miles back, I don’t find this easy by any means but I’m saving cash.

I’m not sure who is doing the major screwing with the price of fuel, but no longer is anyone screwing me.

  28. mike on June 14th, 2008 7:05 am

Shell state there service stations should not run out of diesel Mmmm well here in the north east 2 shell stations have run out of diesel what a suprise, so much for the contingency plans, but hey who gives a F***.

lets see what happens next, i bet the price goes up on monday.

you may have seen from an earleir post that i spoke to shell with regards to there pricing policy and shell stated that it was not them that set the forcourt price but the garage owners themselves.

So i spoke to a local garage owner and his staff and they all confirmed that when the price was to go up they recieved a text from shell stating how much it should go up by, another surprise not realy.

now ask the government they also say its shell

can no one tell the truth.

    i filled my tank.

strike, i dont care how its done or who is doing it but as long as it affects the fuel industry this is a good thing, how much battering can shell or BP take, before they realise we are not happy.

    however i will say this.

i listned to an interview on tv from a tanker driver who stated that £32,000 a year was not enough for such a dangerous job due to sitting in a cab driving a bomb around.

well lads think about all our lads away at the moment on £14-16,000 a year actually having mortor shells, bullets and IED,s used against them on a daily basis.

and i thought the wagon drivers were a tough lot. when was the last explosion in this country from a petrol tank going over or crashing, stop wimping and crying about your wages. i think you get enough.

however if you can help us do our job and bring the fuel down then thats a good reason to strike.

  29. Ian Hazelton on June 15th, 2008 1:13 pm

I live in Burnham on Crouch in Essex, the town has only one filling station. It is expensive at the best of times, which are few, but they have truly excelled themselves since the greedy Shell tanker drivers came out on strike with no regard for anybody including the wider economic situation than them selves, the filling station is charging £1.41 for deisel, and over £1.22 for unleaded. Blatant profiteering. Opportunists of the worst kind. They have us over a barrel, making an easy profit as High demand and possible shortages as an excuse. As a local resident i feel embarrassed on behalf of visitors to my town as they see this garage and their prices on the way in. If there was a bread strike and they were bakers, loaves would be £2.20 each.

  30. Ian Rothwell on June 17th, 2008 6:36 am

We need to show this joke of a government how we feel.
We need to protest. But most types of protest are just going to hurt ourselves first, e.g. go-slow, blockages, etc.
So, why don’t we all do the boycott of BP and Esso stations only?
The theory is that BP and Esso will lower their prices and other oil companies will follow suit - it’s got to be worth a try as it doesn’t hurt the public at all.
BP are by far the most expensive anyway. It always amazes me when I go home and see a BP station packed with cars and the Shell station (5-6p cheaper) down the road empty!
So, remember “Don’t fill up at Esso or BP!”.

  31. Grant Pollock on June 18th, 2008 11:34 am

Last night I passed 2 garages before ending up at a BP.

The first garage (Esso) was open but had no fuel. The second (Jet) had a huge queue and were restricting customers to only £15 of fuel each.

    Both had unleaded at 113p.

So I finally had to go to a BP garage on the motorway before I ended up on fumes.

The distance between the 3 garages is around 2 miles, but BP’s unleaded was 123.9p with diesel 137p!!!!!

    2 miles = 10.9p a litre.

This garage is a rip off any with snacks, drinks, etc at least 50% dearer than a shop.

£20 in the tank and it just reached a quarter full.

Wasnt that long ago that £50 just about filled the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Peter Eastwood on June 19th, 2008 10:57 am

the people of this country have no backbone, all wind and bluff. There are to few willing to do something, it needs everybody to get behind this. Letters do not work, strikes do not work because it`s small numbers. We need a national revolt against our government. These selfish men & women that claim expenses for tv`s,showers, etc, for their second homes, & pay wives and kids £100,000 wages from our taxes.
Why do we stand for it ? fuel prices, food prices, gas, electricity, we just take it, we talk on the net about it, we threaten all sorts of action but when it comes down to it how many actually get off their ass to do something about it.

  33. scanny on June 19th, 2008 6:50 pm

some of us ARE trying to do something about it. if you live outside a city you are probably reliant on your car for work. i know i am. no car = no work! my car is a necessity and i am going to use it to make my voice heard. some of us have got together to create a website for all protesters and protest organisers to come together and unite. as individual groups, no one will make a big impact but if all those groups work together…..
    join the fight at www.britainsrevolting.co.uk

  34. The Fuel Protest Forum on June 19th, 2008 11:45 pm

You’re so right - petrol tax is not enough. It should be double!

How about you lot stop moaning and find an alternative way of getting around that doesn’t involve wrecking the environment and inconveniencing everyone who doesn’t drive a car?

  36. dave siviter on August 10th, 2008 9:17 am

Why is Gordon Brown still in power, Did the british people vote him in. The answer is NO, why do we let him tax our fuel, putting small haulage firm out of business. Do as the French do, bloke the ports the roads, make the goverment listern.
